Restaurant Review Project (Part 1)

So since I like eating a lot, I try to visit new places and try new different foods. And I also like reviewing business practices and just seeing what works and what doesn’t. ANNNNNDDD my second half in life works in a restaurant kitchen, it was a perfect combo to create TwoSidesBlogas and try to create interesting reviews of places around our city. In this time it feels like we learned a lot about how to judge and how to review every restaurant and every fast food place.

The first rule we follow – bad service is usually a reflection of bad management. Since both of us have worked in both the fast food and restaurant industry, we know that if it takes a long time for your meal to live, there’s probably just one person left working in the kitchen. Or it just bad employees, it’s also important not to think in absolutes. So we’re always trying to look at all details to figure things out as much as we can.

So, now some photos, the first gallery is of the Chinese place near our home called Hongyang and a restaurant Čaina. And while we made Hongyan review, I never got the chance to write one for Čaina, well maybe someday…

A place to find a nice tasty meet in the city isn’t that easy to find. Oh sure, a stake is pretty easy to sniff out, but when it comes to shish kebab it’s a different story. Luckily restaurant Žaliukė has quite enough taste and variety to an urn your attention. I also have some photos of Masala Citi, but the same situation applies here. We just didn’t have any time to write a review man. Here are just a few photos, and a Žaliukės review

Let’s get back to some rules. Every place is different not only in style but in how you are supposed to be treated. A simple example of that is that if you go to a small restaurant where there are no waiters and really cheap food, you can’t then complain that it was not a 5* all included service. This also works the other way around, if you’re asked to pay $20 extra to a steak just for nice service, you have to ask did you really get a nice service. You always have to look at what the place promises you, and what you actually get.

The time of the day also plays a part in this. If you go to a place in most hectic lunch hours, it’s normal to have to wait long or food being a bit late. The same can be said about early mornings, the restaurant might not be finished making some meals yet, so it’s not something really their fault unless they advertise it.

The next place we visited was RMano Express, a fast food place that had really tasty kebabs with chips and quite decent picas. Not spectacular but when the price is fairly low, you get a large portion of tasty food just for a few bucks. Sadly this place is already closed, some business decisions, and of course the global quarantine probably helped with that. So here’s is a historic review, because the place is history now…

Let’s continue, quite a nice place to go for a quick snack is Doda, it offers kebabs, burgers, and all other kinds of fast-food variety. Well, it’s not MacDonalds, so the quality is a bit better and the selection is more refined. While it definitely did not impress us enough to enter our “Top 5 Food Places”, I would still recommend to try it. Oh, yeah, here are some photos and a review

Restaurant Piatto Pizza & Grill is a place that we only visited once. Not because it’s far or left a bad impression, it’s all because it left a MEH impression. The price here is a bit more on the expensive side, the pizza we got was more of an oval shape, and the meat was way overcooked. It’s a place that really tries to give good service and a cozy environment but the food is just meh. Here is the review for more context, and some photos, just because.

Another tasty place that thanks god is not closed, well at least some of its spots, is Amber Grill. This is probably the ultimate restaurant to get lots of tasty food for a really cheap price. And I do mean a lot, 6 people can have dinner there with drinks for under 40 euros. The menu is decent, but don’t expect something too crazy or interesting, this is more of a “Stick to what you know” kind of place. Here are some images of our reviews, both Tvirtovės Alėja and Šiaurės Prospektas.

Aaanother place we reviewed that was very near our home was, well, and still is Fast Food Truck. This is a bit of a mixed bag quality-wise. One time it’s really great and it’s the rate ratio between meat and vegetables, and other times it’s soggy and lacks any real taste. It’s really hard to judge these places, they have lots of workers that change regularly, and food made by a person that loves making it will always be tastier. Oh and here is the review link

Another place is a pizzeria right across the street, Marcella Pizza. Which is truly an interesting place, I would call it more of a lunch place, and since there are lots of commercial buildings around, it makes sense. To be perfectly honest the food was great, just the pizza had very weird toppings. Not only toppings but the fact that they were all basically in the middle of the pizza, well you can see it for yourself in the photos below. And here’s a link to our review

A place that was our GO-TO PLACE for quite a while was Snack King, hell, we still recommend this place to anyone craving something delicious. It offers burgers, tasty places, and Macho sandwiches. If you haven’t tried these bad boys, do it as fast as you can. It’s something more interesting than just a burger or a regular sandwich. Have a look at these tasty photos, read the review, and go get it.

Finally, for this part, it’s a double-feature. A small coffee Era and a fast food truck that has no name, just Raudondvario Kebabai. Since these are located very very close to one another, and we visited both of these places the same day. The quality was also kind of the same, ERA showed decent homemade food for a cheap price, and Raudonvario Kebabai showed that you can fuck up a kebab in more ways than 3, you can find more information in our reviews.
