To upgrade my flower photography to the next level, I really think I need a macro lens to get a better and sharper image. I’m looking at a few options right now and hopefully will have something in a few month’s periods. Then I can finally rule the world, oh no, wait, just make a bit better flower photos. Also, while wild flower photography is fun, I would like to try some more interesting approaches with mirrors and other props in the studio environment. So hopefully my next project will have to do something with flowers and water… we’ll see.
It’s something that’s beautiful but doesn’t really need more attention, it’s so popular and anyone can just snap some shots in their back garden. So there are hundreds, hell, millions of photos of different flowers from probably all possible angles. But one thing I had to understand while growing as a professional, just because someone already did something, doesn’t mean that you can’t make it better, or in a different way, or just in your style. We sometimes tend to think that everything has already been accomplished by other people…
You know that quote “Born too late to explore the world and too early to explore the stars”? In my opinion, it’s the biggest piece of demotivation that you yourself put in your head. And sure, if you believe that, why bother creating anything, why should you take photos of flowers if there are better photographers that already did that? Because there are a million ways of doing things.
Guess how many different generations of wildflowers there are, or how many new breeds are created every year? I think a lot, the same can be said about composition, combining different elements, or changing the “feel” of these photos. Use the already collected information and experience to enhance your ideas not to throw them out. The world is an F up place, maybe a nice flower can change that at least a bit.
I love when a post about flowers turns into a rant…
Some food photos might cheer your day, and here is a great article about how to at least try to beat that discouragement.
