Children Photoshoots 2019/20

Yes, everyone loves cute kids and animals. And I don’t know what I like photographing more, on one hand, children are our future. On the other, who the hell cares, and they cry a lot, or maybe that’s just my fear of I don’t know scares them… anyway, back to the topic.

Child and especially newborn photography require a lot from you, first, you have to have lots of props so the kid can interact with them or you can use these as set pieces. The second thing is you have to plan everything from the start, when and what will happen, what will you do if he/she gets cranky, what to do if they’re not interested in your photography, “Thanks a lot Dylan”.

The first photoshoot was with the idea of eating, lemons and sweets can get a variety of expressions out of the child. Just make sure you don’t go overboard and start feeding them ghost peppers. But here as well we ran into a bit of trouble, the lack of space. The best advice for these kinds of photoshoots, do it outside or where you have lots of nice background ready. Not only does the child usually moves a lot during the shoot, but you also want to capture those wider shots of the chaos. So here is GabrielÄ—s first cake Photoshoot.

Let’s get back to the classics, an earlier photoshoot of GabrielÄ— we did in the summer, the idea was to grab any prop or find any interesting looking location around the house and just fire away. In my humble opinion, we did manage to get some pretty good photos here. The key thing is that you can always frame your subject in an interesting way, and you can create a completely different “World” just by changing some aspects of your composition.

Oh and we had a chance to do a quick photo shoot with a horse, which is always nice. Animals can instantly lighten up the photo with their weird expressions. Now, I wouldn’t call these photos my best job, they were made a pretty long time ago, so I stilled lacked some skills and gear. Especially with the framing and composition, well the best way to learn is to practice.

Props also can save your day, and when I say props, I mean basically anything in your house. An old phono or a teddy bear will do just fine, hell, you can just gab some kitchen utensils and it will be a great way to create thematic photos. We invited our friends and their youngest lad Vinciukas and did some prop photography on our own, here are the results of that.

And le final few shots of this post are dedicated to probably the few oldest photos I did, well, what I consider photos and not just snapshots of the environment. Still think these are some of the cutest photos I made, they’re just a bit, well, dark.
